Printing, Mailing and Electronic Filing of 1099 Form

Be careful when printing 1099 forms from a website. It’s important to note that the official Copy A of the 1099 form is scannable. However, the online version of the form on IRS.gov and other websites is not. Do not print and file copy A that has been downloaded from the IRS website. The IRS imposes a fine for filing information return forms that aren’t scannable.

If you need official printed versions of 1099 Copy A tax forms that can be used without possible penalties, you can place an order for returns and employer products through www.IRS.gov/orderforms.  Click on Employer and Information Returns and the IRS will mail you the forms you request and their instructions, as well as any other tax publications you may order.
